MOOC on Antimicrobial Stewardship for Healthcare Professionals

Prudent Use of Antimicrobials in Hospital Settings

Challenge

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health concern, making it critical for healthcare professionals to prescribe antibiotics responsibly. However, translating clinical knowledge into effective digital learning experiences can be challenging.
The goal of this project was to transform expert medical knowledge into a structured online course that helps physicians, nurses, and pharmacists apply antimicrobial stewardship principles in real clinical situations.

Approach

The course was designed as a MOOC available on Coursera, using a problem-based learning approach that mirrors real clinical decision making.
Learners are presented with patient cases where they must analyze symptoms, interpret clinical information, and make treatment decisions. This interactive structure encourages critical thinking and simulates the diagnostic reasoning used in hospital environments.
The learning experience combines expert instruction with visually engaging modules that guide learners through complex medical concepts in a clear and practical way.
